20 new family films to be released in 2021



The past year has challenged the movie industry in many ways by postponing long-awaited films or moving new releases to streaming services due to the shutdown of theaters across the country. Hope this year will give us the opportunity to watch more new movies!

From wonderful remakes of classic movies or thrilling sequels, here are some family movies we can’t wait to see in 2021.

August 2021

Paw Patrol: The Movie

  • Release date: August 20, 2021

Your favorite puppies are coming to the big screen! We can’t wait to see how Ryder and his team of puppies save the day in the first feature film in the animated series.

September 2021

  • Release date: September 17, 2021

Clifford the big red dog stars a 25-foot-tall red dog and his young owner, Emily, in this live-action film adaptation of the classic children’s book series.

October 2021

Hotel Transylvania 4

  • Release date: October 1, 2021

Some families must be so excited to see a fourth installment in the Hotel Transylvania series. Jonathan tries to become a monster so that he can fit in with the family.

The Addams Family 2

  • Release date: October 1, 2021

Just in time for Halloween, the Addams return with more wacky adventures. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do in the 2019 animated film sequel.

Ron was wrong

  • Release date: 22 October 2021

A socially awkward college boy gets turned on when he gets a new toy robot, which is coded to become a human’s best friend. Ron appears to be the ultimate device until it turns out the robot is having some insane dysfunction. Either way, the two are about to have so much fun.

November 2021

Ghostbusters: the afterlife

  • Release date: November 11, 2021

The next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe, Ghostbusters: the afterlife, follows a family who discovers their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy left by their grandfather.


  • Release date: November 24, 2021

After writing the music for Moana, Lin-Manuel Miranda is back with another Disney musical. Encanto takes place in Colombia where we discover a magical family who lives in a magical house.

december 2021

West Side Story


  • Release date: December 10, 2021

The final film adaptation of the 1957 musical explores the rivalry between two gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, as Tony and Maria fall in love in this story loosely based on Romeo and Juliet.

Sing 2

  • Release date: 22 December 2021

The sequel to the 2016 animated film, To sing, is set to hit theaters in late 2021. While we don’t know anything about the plot yet, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more pop music!

Tom and Jerry

Your favorite cat and mouse duo are back with a reimagined live-action animated remake. See Tom and Jerry in New York City as they settle into a hotel to prepare for the wedding of the century. Of course, Jerry’s misdeeds will stand in the way.

Raya and the last dragon

In order to help restore peace to the world of Kumandra, the lone warrior Raya is on a mission to find the last dragon in the world. During her journey, she learns that it will take more than a dragon to save humanity from the evil monsters known as Druun.

This live-action Disney movie tells us the story of Cruella de Vil, the infamous villain from the book, One hundred and one dalmatians. In 1970s London, a young fashion designer, Estella, took an interest in dog skins.

Black Widow

Learn about Natasha Romanoff’s past before she became an Avenger. The Black Widow-centric Marvel movie takes place between the Civil War and Infinity War films.

Untamed spirit

Fans of the recent Netflix series, Spirit Riding Free, will be delighted to see their favorite stallion again.

In the heights

  • Release date: June 11, 2021

Before Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda rose to prominence on Broadway with his Tony-winning musical In the heights. Now, the film adaptation will tell the story of a winery owner with big dreams in his predominantly Latin neighborhood of Washington Heights.


  • Release date: June 18, 2021

Disney Pixar’s latest film takes place on the beautiful Italian Riviera. There, a strong childhood friendship is formed between a young boy and a sea monster disguised as a human. The director of the film, Enrico Casarosa, also worked as a director and screenwriter for the short film Pixar, The moon.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Fugue

  • Release date: June 11, 2021

Mischievous Peter the Rabbit is back, and this time to a world beyond the garden where he can be himself. Peter must find out what kind of bunny he wants to be when his family risks their lives looking for him.

Boss Baby: Family business

  • Release date: July 2, 2021

The Templeton brothers have grown up and when they get together there is a new boss baby in their family, Tina (voiced by Amy Sedaris). She recruits Tim and Ted to stop an evil genie, but first the brothers will have to become babies again.

Space Jam: a new legacy

Yes, the 1996 film starring Michael Jordan finally has a sequel. LeBron James is now teaming up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of your favorite Looney Tunes characters to help save his son.

Jungle cruise

Based on Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park ride, Jungle Cruise, the film takes travelers by riverboat through a jungle filled with mysterious animals and reptiles.
