Families should spend quality time together and participate in more activities – indoors and online – during the pandemic, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
Such activities would help create a stronger family bond and a sense of unity, he added.
“We need more activities of this type now as we face difficult times when public health, social and economic activities have been affected by the pandemic,” he said at the launch of State-level Virtual Family Day 2021 with the theme ‘A Stronger Family, A Better Future’.
Chow said that while this year’s celebration is part of the ânew normal,â the message will remain the same.
âThe support of every family member going through this time is of the utmost importance.
âWe need all family members to function as a unit to protect each other. “
The chairman of the State Committee for Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs, Chong Eng, also spoke about the importance of families in taking care of their homes.
âEvents like this Family Day remind us that we must not let go of our responsibilities to care for one another,â she said.
Chow, Chong Eng and Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC) CEO Ong Bee Leng then ended the event by signing an exclusive t-shirt from PWDC, which is the sponsor of the month-long activity.
One of the events to be organized is the #Walk for Health 2021 virtual walk where gifts worth 70 RM would be given to each registered participant.
“Those who complete the walk have a chance to win a raffle worth 5,000 RM,” Ong said.
