Fall Family Activities To Do This Weekend | Culture

0

This weekend is Fall Family Weekend at WVU, and there’s plenty to do on and near campus.

Students and their loved ones can receive a cheery Mountaineer welcome, watch basketball season kick off, participate in an outdoor activity with WV Adventure, or grab a variety of great food. They can also explore what Morgantown has to offer, such as the Farmer’s Market and Arts Walk on Saturdays.

From activities at WVU to events downtown, here are recommendations for things to do during the weekend.

friday october 14

Welcome Mountaineer

Visit the WVU Campus Recreation Center from 4-7 p.m. for brunch with students and families. It’s also an opportunity for families to take photos with the climber, meet school administrators, and grab WVU merchandise.

Morgantown Main Street Art Walk

This weekend, students, families and local residents can immerse themselves in Morgantown’s arts culture. Head downtown from 6-9 p.m. for the last arts walk of the 2022 season, hosted by Main Street Morgantown.

Dozens of local artists and groups will be present.

Zipline canopy tours

For those with outdoor family members (10+), join the WVU Adventure Team on a zipline canopy tour. The tour includes four ziplines and several aerial structures to enjoy.

For more information on tour times, prices, and registration, visit the Fall Family Adventure webpage.

Gold and blue debut

Families can get a glimpse of the WVU men’s basketball team as they kick off the 2022-2023 season with the first free event and refereed game between Teams Gold and Blue, hosted by Coke Zero Sugar.

There will also be performances from the marching band, cheerleading and dance team.

These events begin at 7 p.m. Doors to the WVU Coliseum open at 6 p.m. Parking at the Colosseum will be free for the evening.

Morgantown Farmer’s Market

You have the chance to take your family to the Morgantown Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8:30am to 12pm to buy local produce. It’s a fun time to see all the produce the farmers bring to Morgantown every weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, parents have the opportunity to meet WVU President E. Gordon Gee. He will talk to the students’ families and answer questions along the way.

This event will take place at the Mountainlair Ballrooms at 1 p.m.

Fall Family Fair

On Saturday afternoon, you may have the chance to take photos with your family at Davis College Green Space during the family fair. This event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is also a great opportunity to have a bite to eat and enjoy classic carnival games.

Sunday October 17

Yoga on the green

For families looking to get moving early in the morning, WVU hosts an 8-9 a.m. yoga session on Sunday at Rec Center Green.

Interested individuals are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and register through the registration genius.

Brunch with your student

Before hitting the road on Sunday, families can grab brunch with their students at one of WVU’s three large dining halls: Café Evansdale, Hatfields and Summit Café.
