The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it responded to a call on June 21 regarding a dispute between Ricky Uwich and a nearby Muslim family, KTNV reported.

Uwich, 57, had called police several times in the past and at the last moment told investigators his neighbors were bothering him and had broken a chandelier in his house, although the family had never been to the inside his house, KSNV reported.

“Uwich said the family were terrorists,” police wrote.

When officers spoke to the family, they told investigators they feared for their safety. They said Uwich had been harassing them since January. They said they avoided it. However, he was constantly texting them. They said they exchanged their phone numbers months ago.

They said they had tried to make peace with him, offering to cook meals for him, but things only got worse.

The family have shown police videos and pictures of Uwich putting bacon on their car. He also smeared a piece on the door and railings of their house. Pork is prohibited by Islamic dietary laws.

A family member told police he felt “terrified” by Uwich.

When questioned by police, Uwich admitted to coating the bacon. He told investigators he didn’t like Muslims and smeared bacon in retaliation for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, KTNV reported.

Uwich was arrested and charged with harassment, stalking, nuisance or trespassing and committing a crime out of hate or bias, KSNV reported.

The family went to court and applied for a protection order on June 23.
