Mapperton House to open for family activities mid-term

A BUMPER week of family fun is coming to Mapperton House and Gardens this semester.

Mapperton House, the family home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, will welcome families to the grounds to enjoy fun outdoor activities and get out into the great outdoors.

From May 30 to June 3, visitors of all ages are invited to dress up and walk a garden path, following clues around the park.

More adventurous visitors can sign up for a two-hour guided walk through the West Dorset countryside on Monday 31 May. The walk will be led by environmentalist Dr Tom Brereton and participants will have the opportunity to explore the plants, birds, insects and other wildlife of the area.

The popular Mapperton Spring Plant Show will be held on Sunday, June 6, where garden enthusiasts will have the chance to collect plants from a range of specialist stalls and stroll through the gardens.

The Coach House Café will be open for food and drinks throughout the week.

Luke Montagu, Viscount Hinchingbrooke, said: “All of us at Mapperton are delighted to be able to welcome visitors of all ages to these events celebrating the start of summer.

“There is the possibility to get some fresh air, have fun exploring the gardens and take the opportunity to experience a wealth of nature in a rarely visited part of the countryside nearby. ‘welcome everyone. ”
