RCC to celebrate Earth Day with scavenger hunt and family activities


RESTON, VA – The Reston Community Center is celebrating Earth Day 2021 with free, family-friendly activities as part of the Green Reston program.

On Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., families can participate in a number of free activities on the RCC Hunter Woods plaza, including a photo scavenger hunt. The family with the best photo will win a prize.

Those who wish to participate in the scavenger hunt before April 24 can do so by taking photos of the things that make Reston an environmentally vibrant community. Check out the Green Reston Scavenger Hunt checklist below. Be sure to use the hashtag #GreenReston when sharing your photos on social media. Here are some of the other Green Reston activities planned for the Green Reston event on April 24:

  • Make your own plasticine: Bring a container so you can take your play dough home.
  • Start your own herb garden: Get all the supplies you need to create an herb garden in a biodegradable seed pot.
  • Earth-friendly activity: The Girl Scouts of the National Capital will offer an interactive activity and demonstration that respects the environment.
  • Tell stories : From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., listen to an eco-friendly book that will appeal to all ages. The narration will be followed by an accompanying DIY.

Registration and the wearing of a mask are mandatory for Green Reston activities on April 24.
