Xbox Game Pass Reportedly Launched the Family Plan to Save You Money

Microsoft could take inspiration from Netflix by offering Xbox Game Pass in a family-style subscription, offering the means to share the game service in a household.

This is according to an exclusive report from our colleagues at Windows Centralwho have heard of Microsoft’s plans to introduce an Xbox Game Pass “family plan”.

“From reliable sources familiar with Microsoft’s efforts, we can now confirm that Xbox is moving forward with an Xbox Game Pass family plan, which may launch this year,” Windows Central’s Jez Corden reported.

According to this report, the family plan will give Xbox Game Pass access to up to five players with a single subscription, which should be cheaper than five individual Game Pass subscriptions.

“Using Microsoft’s family account system already used for Office 365, gamers from the same country will be able to play together using a single XGP subscription managed by a central account holder, much the same as Netflix” , Corden continued.

What’s not yet clear is whether the Family Pan will apply to vanilla Game Pass or also Game Pass for PC and Game Pass Ultimate. Additionally, there’s no word on potential pricing or when Microsoft will officially announce this Xbox Game Pass family plan.

However, if all of this information is correct, that’s good news for a gaming household. And even if those gamers aren’t in a real family, we could see such a subscription plan being used by a household of students or young professionals who all want to enjoy the mass of games on Game Pass but don’t want to pay for individual subscriptions.

Given that Game Pass offers access to a huge library of old and new Xbox games, as well as PC games and Xbox Cloud Gaming on the Ultimate tier (its streaming game is now pretty impressive on iOS), it’s one of the best gaming deals even at its most expensive.

More affordable Game Pass access could also be a way for Microsoft to respond to the recently upgraded PlayStation Plus services, which are expected to offer Game Pass-like access to a library of PlayStation games as well as some streaming games.
